Ibrahima Konate: How much could reported Liverpool and Arsenal target cost?

One man who may be on the move in January or next summer, is talented RB Leipzig central defender Ibrahima Konate.

Arsenal (BILD) and Liverpool (BILD’s Christian Falk) are among the teams to have been linked with the Frenchman, who has become one of the most highly-rated players in his position in the Bundesliga.

There is often a lot of talk about his teammate Dayot Upamecano, but Konate is right up there with him in terms of ability and promise.

Unfortunately, Konate’s injury record has prevented him from turning out as regularly as his fellow countryman.

In 2019/20, he was only able to make 11 appearances in all competitions having struggled with a muscle injury and a torn hip flexor, which caused him to missed the start of the current campaign.

When in the team though, Konate is a fearsome defender.

He’s previously been compared to Virgil van Dijk (Bundesliga.com), and he is notable for making things look much easier than they actually are – just as the Dutchman regularly does.

He’s an athlete, and a ball-player, and it would seem he is destined to play for a big club at some point in his career.

How much could Konate cost?

Konate has a contract until 2023, which puts Leipzig in a pretty strong position over their asset.

He is very similar in terms of ability to Dayot Upamecano so one would think he could command a similar fee to his defensive partner.

Aged 21, he has plenty of time on his side before he gets to his peak, and he has all the attributes desirable in a modern-day centre-half.

The only thing clubs would have concerns about is his injury record, which has surely got to bring down his market value slightly.

Estimated cost: £35 million – £45 million
