Ian Wright gives four-word reaction as Leeds fall to defeat in Marsch’s first game in charge

Leeds fell to defeat in their opening game under Jesse Marsch, as Leicester City spoiled the party thanks to a well-taken Harvey Barnes goal.

The Whites were in fine fettle for much of the clash and were unlucky not to be ahead. Instead, they found Kasper Schmeichel in fine form and the big Dane’s save from Raphinha from close range proved a decisive moment in the game.

However, there was much to like from a Leeds perspective and Marsch will have been encouraged by some of what he say on display at the King Power. They defended a lot better than in recent weeks and on the whole, created enough chances to win the game on another day.

Indeed, that chance creation was something which former Arsenal and England striker, and regular BBC pundit, Ian Wright, pointed out as he reacted to the Leeds defeat on Twitter.

All in all though, the defeat pushes Leeds further towards the bottom three and they’ll be looking for other teams to them a favour through the rest of Saturday and the weekend.

Ian Wright might be pointing out the chances created but the biggest plus for Leeds was they managed to keep Leicester at bay with relative ease in the main. They’ve been conceding for fun of late, so to just ship the one this time might offer some strange relief.

For Marsch, there is lots to work on and lots to work with. He’ll be happy with some aspects of the display and, of course, unhappy with other parts.

Leeds fans, too, will be happy enough despite the loss. With Bielsa leaving being such a blow, a 1-0 loss at a good team in Leicester isn’t the end of the world.
