Ian Wright thinks Tottenham target Lautaro Martinez will win World Cup Golden Boot

Ian Wright has backed Tottenham Hotspur target and Argentina superstar Lautaro Martinez to win the Golden Boot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

All sorts of predictions for the biggest sporting tournament in the world are coming in from across the globe. There are a number of contenders for the Golden Boot award, but Wright has backed the Inter Milan forward to take home the prestigious accolade.

Ian Wright thinks Tottenham target Lautaro Martinez will win World Cup Golden Boot

The Golden Boot at the World Cup is awarded to the player with the most goals at the end of the tournament.

Tottenham star Kane won it in 2018, while James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose and Ronaldo Nazario bagged the accolade in the previous installments.

Kane is definitely one of the favourites to win it this time as well, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Wright, however, has backed Martinez to score more goals than all of the above-mentioned players.

He said on the Wrighty’s House Podcast: “I am going to go (for my Golden Boot), because I have gone with Argentina, so someone is going to have to blast them to it. I think Lautaro Martinez.

“I think he might be the one to finish it off. He might be the one to score the goals. He might be Steve Kerr, so I am going to go with Martinez for the Golden Boot.

“Lionel Messi might score the 1-0 goal. But Martinez is someone who will blast through the group stages and might score in the latter stages. Messi might be the one who scores the winner against Brazil in the semis.”

Spurs want to sign Lautaro Martinez

England fans will sure be hoping that Kane will lead them to glory, while fans of Argentina will want Martinez to join Messi in helping Argentina go all the way.

Tottenham fans, on the other hand, may well be backing both, as if Antonio Conte gets his way, the two superstar strikers could well be teammates in North London next season.

InterLive revealed earlier this week that Spurs are keen to sign the Argentine next summer. CMW revealed about a month ago that Martinez will cost Tottenham a club-record fee – about £72 million.

If Martinez goes on to pip Kane and co to the Golden Boot in Qatar, that valuation may go up considerably.
