Ian Wright thinks teams will now start to target Arsenal player who was ‘so ineffective’ vs Porto

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is now worried that teams will start targeting Jorginho in the Champions League.

The Italian has been amazing for Arsenal more often than not this season. He had a decent game last night against Porto as well, but he found himself in trouble on a couple of occasions, and Wright is now seriously concerned about him.

Ian Wright thinks Jorginho was ‘so ineffective’ for Arsenal vs Porto

Jorginho didn’t start the game against Porto in the first leg, and it has to be said that Arsenal missed his calmness in the middle of the park that night.

The £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) Italian came on in the second half in Portugal, but he didn’t have a great game. David Hillier went as far as saying he’s not good enough to be a substitute.

Mikel Arteta decided to start Jorginho in the second leg last night, and we feel that was the right call. Yes, Porto made it difficult for him, but he got on the ball well and worked really hard.

Wright, however, felt the Italian was really ‘ineffective’, and he thinks teams could start to target him going forward after watching his performance last night.

Speaking on Wrighty’s House, the Arsenal legend said: “The problem I feel we might have is that if Jorginho is playing in those games – I think the more that’s on the line and the more we need to control games, the more Jorginho has a chance of playing.

“So, I think people will cater for him. And people will watch this game and think hmm…  In the end, they took Jorginho off and remember, he’s a penalty taker. He was so ineffective today because he did not get the chance to turn and do his stuff.

“I think teams will probably target that because that has really curtailed us.”

Arsenal have Thomas Partey available now

Jorginho is an incredible midfielder, and he has been absolutely outstanding for Arsenal in most games since the turn of this year.

However, like every player, he does have his flaws, but Arsenal have nothing to worry about now as they have Thomas Partey back from injury.

The Ghana international is not perfect either, but when he’s fully fit and ready to go, he’s probably more suited to games like last night’s.

It won’t surprise us at all if Partey replaces Jorginho in Arsenal’s midfield when the Gunners go to the Etihad to take on Manchester City later this month.
