'Very poor': Ian Wright unhappy with Eddie Nketiah's Arsenal display against Forest
Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, was left bemused by the performance of young striker Eddie Nketiah this afternoon, as the Gunners lost out to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.
Nketiah was handed a rare start up top as Arsenal went into the clash with Forest as favourites. However, on the night, they couldn’t quite live with Forest and a Lewis Grabban goal settled things late on. The Gunners, meanwhile, couldn’t take their chances, a few of which fell to Nketiah.
And speaking on ITV’s coverage after the game this evening, Wright said that he was disappointed with Nketiah.
“I thought his movement was very poor. Ally was talking about it and was right, sometimes when it’s not quite going for you, you need to be sharp. I don’t know what happened here (missing the big chance). He kind of gets that all mixed up. It was one of those days that he needed to take a half chance. And I thought he had that with the header and he didn’t quite do it,” Wright said of Nketiah.
Nketiah has been tipped to leave Arsenal in January. Mikel Arteta wants to keep him, but a number of clubs are keen on bringing him in. Nketiah is out of contract this summer, with no sign of fresh terms being agreed yet.
TBR’s View: Nketiah Blows Big Arsenal Chance
What a shame for Eddie Nketiah tonight. He was part of a whole team that simply didn’t deliver against Championship opposition.
Nketiah, on a personal level, just didn’t look at it. He missed the chances that Wright pointed out and overall, looked to be far away from a Premier League quality striker.
Anyone watching on might be having doubts now. And for Nketiah himself, he’ll be disappointed to be criticised by an Arsenal legend like Wright.
