Ian Wright has shared what Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips texted him following his masterclass in the Premier League last weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road on Sunday, with Phillips putting in a superb display for his boyhood club.

The 25-year-old repeatedly snuffed out opposition attacks, made numerous big tackles, recovered the ball plenty of times, and weighed in with several interceptions and clearances.

Phillips also contributed from an attacking perspective, making plenty of superb passes and creating chances for his teammates.

“I sent a message to Kalvin Phillips saying: ‘Bro, excellent, outstanding performance,’” Wright said on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

“He replied saying ‘That was a hard day at the office.’ Following them around and trying.

“I can’t imagine what it’s like to play against a team like City, you look at United and think they could be doing more, and then you’ve got a man like that who is saying it’s a hard day at the office.”

Phillips has gone from strength to strength this season, along with Leeds of course, and it’ll be exciting to see how they kick on next term.

With Bielsa reportedly close to agreeing a new deal with the Whites, the players wiser and more experienced after a year in the top flight, and the opportunity of new recruits coming through the door in the summer, the future looks bright at Elland Road.
