Ian Wright has told his Wrighty’s House podcast that Takehiro Tomiyasu has been “magnificent”, noticing that no-one has yet got past the defender.
Tomiyasu, 22, joined Arsenal from Bologna in the summer – starting both league games in which the Gunners have beaten Burnley and Norwich.
Hector Bellerin moved to Real Betis on deadline day, with Japan international Tomiyasu coming in to replace the Spain international.
Many have been impressed with Tomiyasu, who cost the Gunners in the region of £20million. His defensive ability has been noticeable so far.
One-on-one situations, excellent in the air, strong on the ball – Wright is impressed. The Gunners icon shared what he has noticed about Tomiyasu.
“Tomiyasu, I don’t think anyone has gone past him. He has been a very shrewd signing, he has been magnificent,” Wright told his own podcast.

Wright on Tomiyasu: Best is yet to come from Arsenal star
Not only is Tomiyasu showing form on the right side of the defence, but the Japanese ace is only just getting started – since his move to Arsenal.
The defender also offers enormous versatility – either as a right wing-back, more advanced than his current role, in a back three, or a five.
Tomiyasu can also move into the middle, as a centre-back – or probably his best position, the right of a back three. He has lots more to offer Arsenal.
But for now, the new signing has made an excellent start to life. Two wins, two clean sheets, and almost a goal of his own. Wright, is right.
