Arsenal legend Ian Wright has taken to Twitter with a message for Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, jokingly urging him to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Aubameyang’s current deal expires next summer but speculation regarding the Arsenal striker penning a new contract has increased in recent weeks.

As reported by the likes of Daily Mail, the 31-year-old has been locked in contract talks for weeks with the Gunners hierarchy, with a three-year deal worth £250,000-a-week said to be in the pipeline.

Talks appear to be dragging on, however, and during an Instagram Live session on Friday, Aubameyang said: “Everyone is showing the pen and paper but I still don’t have the papers bruv!”

That said, he did go on to say: “Have a good night, enjoy and hopefully great news for everybody.”

Also on Friday, Wright shared a photo of himself with a clipboard and a pen, with the caption “taking so long gonna sign da ting myself”.

And Aubameyang responded:

Aubameyang is arguably Arsenal’s most important player and has enjoyed another wonderful season in the red and white, scoring 29 goals and taking over the Gunners team captaincy.

The Gabon international played a huge role in helping Mikel Arteta’s Gunners to silverware this season, scoring two in the FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City before netting a brace against Chelsea in the final.
