Arsenal churned out a much-improved performance on Sunday afternoon but still suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at The Emirates – and Ian Wright has sent an Instagram message to Tammy Abraham.
Mikel Arteta has taken just one point from his first two games as Arsenal manager, but the feeling among supporters is that there is a growing enthusiasm among the players. Indeed, there is much more endeavour in their effort and performances.
The Gunners took the lead through a bullet header from Pierre-Emerick Aubmeyang, after a neat flick on from Calum Chambers. The Arsenal skipper looks a rejuvenated player in the last two games, running the channels and putting the work in.
Arsenal could and probably should have extended their lead – Joe Willock coming within an inch of doing so. But late goals from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham saw Chelsea win late on. Abraham, who scored his 12th league goal, posted on Instagram.
Though the feel-good factor is beginning to creep back into The Emirates, there is an awful long way to go. They sit in 12th place on 24 points, a mammoth 11 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. Dreams of a top-four finish are as good as over.
Arsenal legend Wright responded to Abraham’s post, telling the England international that his late goal “broke his heart”.
