Ian Wright has responded to Steven Gerrard’s Instagram post after the Rangers manager guided his side to the club’s 55th Scottish Premiership title, stopping Celtic’s pursuit of 10 in a row – and Wright was magnanimous in his message.
Rangers have been excellent throughout the entire campaign. They sit 20 points above Celtic, with the Hoops handing the title to Rangers on Sunday when they failed to beat Dundee United at Tannadice. With six games to go, Rangers are champions.
Some of the stats Rangers have produced this seaso are remarkable. Gerrard has seen his side concede just nine league goals in 32 matches, dropping only eight points throughout the entire campaign. They remain unbeaten in the division.
Not only that, but Rangers remain just as competitive in the Europa League. They take on Slavia Prague in the last 16 of the Europa League, a tough tie but one that Rangers will feel they can win. Gerrard posted on Instagram amid the celebrations.
Many responded to Gerrard, including many of his old Liverpool teammates. Jamie Redknapp commented: “what a man”, while Luis Garcia praised the Liverpool legend. Ally McCoist, Adebayo Akinfenwa and Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson reacted.
But Wright’s comment certainly stood out. The enigmatic pundit declared that while he “loves the Bhoys”, Gerrard deserves credit and congratulated the Rangers boss.
