Ian Wright says Leeds will be even better once fans return to Elland Road

Regular BBC pundit and former Arsenal striker, Ian Wright, has claimed Leeds United will be even better once their crowds return to Elland Road.

Next season is looking more likely in terms of fuller or max capacity stadiums. However, there is a chance Leeds could see some fans before the end of the season, with 10,000 supporters expected to be allowed for the final two PL fixtures.

Leeds have been stunning on their return to the top-flight this term. A top half finish is firmly on the cards and worryingly for other sides, Wright believes things will only get better once fans return to Elland Road.

“Once Leeds get the crowd back in, a couple more signings, I’m telling you… It’s amazing, simply because… In the game against Man United, the fans would really have ramped that up and Leeds would have gone for it with even more gusto,” Wright told his Wrighty’s House Pod.

“Because you haven’t got the crowds to give you that extra bit to go for teams… when we get that back we’ll get football back properly.”

Elland Road is certainly one of the more atmospheric grounds in the PL nowadays. Marcelo Bielsa’s men were inspired more than once by their home crowd as they won promotion. It goes without saying, then, that Wright has a good point here.

TBR View: Leeds could get better but with crowds comes greater pressure

Ian Wright makes a valid point about the Leeds crowd and Elland Road here. And he is right, when things are going well.

But don’t forget it can work in reverse as well. While Leeds were struggling years ago, Elland Road was a toxic place at times so if things don’t go to plan next season, the players will feel that pressure.

But whilever things keep going well, then by all means, Elland Road is the place to be.
