Ian Wright says he spotted something on Sunday which proved Arsenal star has gone to ‘another level’

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has waxed lyrical about Bukayo Saka, saying the Gunners prodigy is a “generational talent” who’s gone to “another level”.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stratospheric rise to the top of the game over the past two years, and is now one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team sheet.

Saka made his Arsenal breakthrough in 2019-20, clocking up 39 appearances in all competitions and weighing in with four goals and 11 assists.

This season, meanwhile, he has registered 28 appearances across all competitions, scoring five and assisting five.

Saka was superb once again for Arsenal in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Leeds at the Emirates Stadium, running Ezgjan Alioski ragged and bagging an assist.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, the Gunners icon said one moment involving Saka from the victory over Marcelo Bielsa’s side stood out for him.

“He is a generational talent simply because of what he’s capable of doing right now, you can see him actively getting better,” Wright said in a clip shared on his Twitter account.

“What was noticeable (against Leeds) is what normally happens to experienced players who you know what they’re capable of.

“Aubameyang gets the ball on the left, cuts inside, no-one’s going over there, no-one’s going over to close that space to bring another defender in the way.

“You notice that when Bukayo Saka went through and had the penalty shout, exactly the same respect got shown, and that is when you know that someone’s now gone to another level.”

Fans, pundits and peers are running out of superlatives for Saka, a player of the highest calibre who, let’s not forget, is still just 19 and is most likely capable of so much more as he continues to progress, develop and gain more experience.

Arsenal may have had a bit of a rollercoaster season so far this term – as was the case in 2019-20 – but things look to be heading in the right direction as a club, and having Saka in the ranks is such a big boost.
