Ian Wright says Arsenal have a top talent in their ranks who ‘no-one’s going to run past’

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has sung William Saliba’s praises following the Gunners’ resounding victory over Sheffield United on Monday night.

The Arsenal icon, speaking on Wrighty’s House, said everyone knows that “no-one’s going to run past” the 22-year-old Gunners star.

Saliba spent most of the game camped in the opposition half and didn’t have much to do, such was Arsenal’s dominance in the match.

Nonetheless, the ‘skilful‘ Frenchman stayed focused and was comfortable on the ball throughout. Indeed, he made more passes in the game (169) than the Blades’ entire team (142).

Wright spoke about Saliba in wake of Arsenal’s win, suggesting Sheffield United didn’t even bother lumping the ball long because he’d basically mop up every single time.

“When you look at how William Saliba is the last man, our deepest man, and he’s in their half when our ball’s down in their final third, because we know no-one’s going to run past him,” said Wright.

“So you’ve literally got a whole team in down that final third because even if they do knock it long, William Saliba will get it and win it back, so everyone was just there pressing.”

William Saliba going from strength to strength at Arsenal

Saliba is just one of many Arsenal players who are in fine form and helping the team push for the Premier League title in one of the fiercest races in recent years.

The £27million man needed a while to get up to speed, spending the first three years on the books at Arsenal out on loan.

However, when Saliba made his debut in the summer of 2022, it was clear to see that the Gunners had a star on their hands.

Indeed, his injury in the second half of last season proved extremely damaging for Arsenal’s hopes of winning the title.

Now, a stronger Gunners outfit has hit form at the right time and will be eager to go all the way. So far, they’re certainly keeping up with Liverpool and Manchester City.
