Ian Wright says Arsenal are going to make a signing and change ‘amazing’ player’s position

Mikel Arteta has never been scared to change a player’s position at Arsenal.

Indeed, Arteta is very much a believer in using players in different roles if they’re good enough.

Mikel Merino has turned into a striker as of late, Bukayo Saka was a left-back when Arteta arrived, while Kai Havertz has improved massively since becoming a centre-forward rather than a midfielder.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright has now tipped another Arsenal player for a position change.

Indeed, Wright reckons that Myles Lewis-Skelly could be set to move back into midfield at some point as he thinks Arsenal may soon sign a new left-back.

Ian Wright thinks Myles Lewis-Skelly’s position could change

Wright spoke about how this Arsenal team will evolve in the future.

The pundit claimed that he can see Arsenal signing a new left-back in the near future, allowing Lewis-Skelly to move into the midfield.

“I would like to see Martinelli continue to play, down that left side I do believe that at some stage they may be looking to sign a left-back because Myles Lewis-Skelly can go into that midfield and prop that up, then we need someone who can activate Martinelli, because in this kind of form, there aren’t many defenders who can deal with him,” Wright said.

Arsenal don’t need a new left-back

Wright says that Arsenal could sign a new left-back in order to allow Lewis-Skelly to move into the midfield, but the Gunners don’t necessarily need a new player in that position.

Let’s not forget, despite his injuries this season, Riccardo Calafiori has earned praise this season at left-back.

In fact, Wright has praised Calafiori for unlocking Martinelli in the way he discusses here.

Meanwhile, Oleksandr Zinchenko is still a fantastic left-back option if he can rediscover his confidence and best form.

On top of that, Jurrien Timber is also capable of playing as a left-back to a high standard.

Arsenal have the necessary depth at left-back should they wish to move Lewis-Skelly into midfield, but whether or not they’ll want to do that is another question.

Lewis-Skelly has been described as ‘amazing’ recently, and he’s done brilliantly at left-back, and, as the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Regardless of what position he plays, it’s fair to say that Lewis-Skelly is a real star in the making.
