Ian Wright has told ITV (broadcast on 28/3; 19:05) that he would be disappointed if he was a Tottenham Hotspur fan after hearing Harry Kane’s comments about his future.
Clubs monitoring Kane would be forgiven for feeling that they have been put on alert this week.

The striker was asked whether he may need to think about leaving Spurs to win trophies. But, rather than put to bed any speculation surrounding his future, the England captain insisted – in comments reported by The Telegraph – that he is not thinking too far ahead.
“It’s important that all my focus is on the two England games coming up now and the rest of the season with Spurs and then the Euros. To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance.”
It is potentially an understandable response. It has been a difficult season for Jose Mourinho’s side. And Kane is reaching the stage of his career where he is running out of time if he hopes to make a move while at his absolute peak.

However, Wright has taken exception to what Kane said. The forward signed his latest deal ahead of the last World Cup. And the pundit suggested that Tottenham fans may now feel a little let down.
“If Harry Kane is now talking about that, what’s going to happen with his future, then you don’t sign for six years,” he told ITV. “You’re going into a World Cup, if you can win the Golden Boot – which he did – you’ve got even more bargaining power.
“You can say: ‘well, I don’t really want to sign, I want to see how I go’. But he signed for six years, it’s until 2024. If I’m a Tottenham fan, I’d be quite disappointed to hear that.”
TBR View: Wright’s point valid, but Spurs’ lack of progress was not on cards
In fairness to Kane, Spurs were still moving in the right direction when he put pen to paper on fresh terms.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham had just finished third in the league. One year later, they would be in the Champions League final.
Having said that, Kane was already under contract until 2022 (via BBC Sport). While he may have wanted improved terms, it was not necessarily urgent for the Tottenham talisman to extend his deal. So you can see where Wright is coming from.
But Spurs have not moved forward in the last two years. So you could also understand if there were Tottenham fans reluctantly accepting of Kane’s decision if he does decide that this summer is the right time for a new challenge.
