Ian Wright reacts as Patrick Bamford receives England call-up

Of course, he enjoyed a stunning first season in the Premier League with Marcelo Bielsa’s side. He scored 17 goals and contributed eight assists for Leeds.

Nevertheless, Gareth Southgate decided to leave him out of the ranks for Euro 2020, with Bamford even missing out on the preliminary squad.

But Bamford has not had to wait too much longer for his chance.

It was confirmed on Thursday that the 27-year-old has been included for the upcoming games with Hungary, Poland and Andorra.

And following the news, Wright took to Twitter to express his delight for the Leeds man…

Leeds fans will not be surprised if Bamford silences doubters on international stage after call-up to latest England squad

It has been a remarkable journey for Bamford. It is easy to forget now that his first year at Elland Road really did not go to plan.

He was signed for big money. And yet, he struggled with injury. And Kemar Roofe spent the campaign as Bielsa’s first choice striker.

Even in his second season, Bamford came in for criticism. He was not prolific enough as Leeds sealed promotion from the Championship.

That prompted many to insist that he would struggle in the Premier League. But those doubters have been silenced emphatically.

He was outstanding last season. And he has already contributed this term with a brilliant assist against Everton last weekend.

So do not be surprised if he steps up once again now he finally has his international chance.
