Ian Wright raves about Arsenal midfielder in comeback against West Ham United

Ian Wright has told Optus Sport’s coverage of Arsenal’s comeback draw with West Ham United that Martin Odegaard produced a “fantastic” performance against the Hammers – claiming he is very “efficient” in possession.

Arsenal came from three goals down to draw level with West Ham at the London Stadium, despite the scoreline reading 3-0 to David Moyes’ side just after the half-hour mark. Jesse Lingard continued his excellent form.

The returning England ace opened the scoring with a great strike, before Jarrod Bowen netted two minutes later. Tomas Soucek got a third on 32 minutes – but Soucek then scored an own goal seven minutes before half-time.

Another own goal, this time from Craig Dawson, and then a late Alexandre Lacazette strike saw the two London sides share the spoils. Odegaard was crucial, especially in the second goal, and Wright was full of praise.

“What you see from him, he is a player that has got unbelievable potential and ability,” Wright told Premier League Productions. “You want to see him in a game where he does the meat and bones.

“He picks the ball up and does what he does. He is very efficient with it. He did it when Arsenal needed him, he chose the right pass so many times today – fantastic performance today,” Wright continued.

TBR’s view – Can Odegaard take Arsenal into top-six contention?

With nine Premier League games to play, everything is possible – but the Gunners can hardly afford another slip up. A boost, though, is that in their remaining games – they only face Liverpool and Chelsea from the so-called top six.

Indeed, they also take on struggling Premier League sides Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle, West Brom and Sheffield United – the Premier League’s bottom five clubs. The other two fixtures are Palace and Everton, both winnable.

They need to go on a run, and pick up at least seven or eight wins from those nine games – and then they might have a chance. Odegaard will be crucial to that, if they are to do so.
