Ian Wright questions whether Conte will remain at Tottenham next season

Ian Wright has told Wrighty’s House that he cannot see Antonio Conte staying at Tottenham Hotspur unless he has been promised all of the signings he wants during the summer transfer window.

Conte’s honeymoon period in North London is most definitely over. Spurs remain right in the mix for the top four in the Premier League. However, they have arguably squandered their pole position in the race.

They have now lost their last three in the league. And they have conceded seven goals in that time. Unsurprisingly, the fans appear to have lost little faith in the Italian.

Instead, there are potentially concerns regarding whether Tottenham will be able to keep Conte if they are not able to match his ambitions.

Conte is the first manager to arrive at Tottenham with an elite reputation and while somewhere near the top of his game. So it would be a devastating blow for many Spurs fans if they were unable to keep him around.

Certainly, Wright fears that they are in danger of pushing Conte out of the door – unless Tottenham can pull something out of the hat during the summer window.

“I feel for Conte because unless they have told him in the summer we’re going to give you everything you want, I cannot see him staying there,” he told Wrighty’s House.

“Spurs cannot carry on like they are now, nothing happening in January, with a manager like Conte. With a winning manager, a manager who is aggressive and wants his team to be aggressive and winning.

“The ways Spurs are at the minute, watching them against Wolves, come on man.

“I can’t sit here and think Conte is happy with his lot, unless he knows more than we know. I think to myself why would he stay for that? Why?”

Nowhere for Levy to go should Conte leave Tottenham

Of course, Tottenham’s most successful period since the turn of the Millennium came when they appointed Mauricio Pochettino. And Pochettino was unproven at an elite level.

So there is every chance that they could stumble upon the right manager should they have to replace Conte at any stage.

But clearly, Conte is about as close to a sure thing as Tottenham are going to get in their current situation.

So Spurs really cannot afford to lose him. There are good, young managers around. But Nuno Espírito Santo had proved himself as a very decent boss at Premier League level before his ill-fated tenure. So there are no guarantees that they will get it right.

And there are bound to be plenty of Tottenham players who question their own position should Conte decide that he cannot continue.
