Ian Wright praises one Arsenal star after Chelsea loss

Ian Wright has told Match of the Day 2 that while he found it quite frightening how easy Chelsea found life against Arsenal, he felt Albert Sambi Lokonga was very good for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s men have now begun the campaign with two defeats in two. They suffered a 2-0 loss against the Blues at the Emirates on Sunday.

It was another hugely disappointing occasion for the Gunners. The visitors could have certainly scored a few more. Arsenal meanwhile, did not manage to show an awful lot going forward.

The fans are probably able to count the positives on one hand. Sambi however, was one of those to come in for a lot of credit, with many feeling that he was, by far, their best player.

And Wright has agreed with those praising the summer signing. The former Arsenal striker also suggested that Nicolas Pepe could be reasonably happy with his display.

“What I saw of that today, apart from Lokonga – I thought he was very good today – Pepe did a bit in places, I thought we were really bereft of anything,” he told Match of the Day 2.

“I don’t know what the tactics were. Because when you look at how easily they were able to breach, for me, it was quite frightening.”

Sambi leaving Arsenal fans with hope ahead of Thomas Partey return

Unfortunately, it looks incredibly unlikely that Arteta is going to be able to address all of the issues in the final days of the transfer window.

But many are correct to point out Arsenal were missing some key players.

One of those yet to feature this term is Thomas Partey.

Partey endured a tough first season in North London. And unfortunately, his luck is yet to improve heading into this campaign.

But the idea of pairing Partey with Sambi will leave supporters with reason for optimism.

Sambi has made a brilliant start to life at the Emirates. And Partey did demonstrate how good he could be last term.

So it could be a potential game-changer if the pair can strike up a good partnership once they finally get the chance to play together.
