Reiss Nelson has completed a season-long loan move from Arsenal to Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord – and Ian Wright has given an eight-word verdict.
Nelson, 21, has left Arsenal for the first time to join Feyenoord this summer. It comes after failing to build on his promising Arsenal start.
The England Under-21 winger has clocked up 48 senior appearances for the Gunners. But last season, he ended up being a regular in the Under-23 side.
His exit comes after the departure of Willian, which might have increased his game time under Mikel Arteta. He did come on as a sub at Brentford.
But he joins a side that currently sit in fourth place in the Eredivisie table – having won two of their three league games. A title chase is on the cards.
Nelson to Feyenoord: Wright responds as star leaves Arsenal
It will have been a tricky decision to make for Nelson. Like Emile Smith-Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah, he is a Hale End academy product.
But unlike Smith-Rowe and Nketiah, Nelson has not gone on loan or left the club. Nketiah has been at Leeds, Smith-Rowe at Leipzig and Huddersfield.
However, it is a move that had to happen. Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will not give Nelson the game time he needs to turn potential into proven quality.
A move to Feyenoord is an intriguing one. It is an average standard, but it does see Nelson feature in Europe – the Europa Conference League.
Responding to Arsenal’s post that Nelson had moved to Feyenoord on Instagram, Gunners legend Wright posted a touching eight-word message.
