Ian Wright picks one Arsenal player for enormous praise after sparkling NLD outing

Ian Wright has chosen to heap massive praise on Martin Odegaard during his analysis on Premier League Productions, after Arsenal beat Tottenham.

Emile Smith-Rowe won the plaudits with a stunning performance in the final third. He scored the opener, and created the second for the Gunners.

It was the Hale End product’s first goals and assists of the season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was excellent, and got the second of the game.

Bukayo Saka got the third, while new signings Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu have all been praised – even by Spurs fans.

Speaking after the match, Wright was clearly delighted. Other than celebrating in front of Glenn Hoddle, he did also offer some analysis.

Odegaard was the pick of the players for Wright, laying massive plaudits at his door. Wright suggested he was surprised Arsenal managed to sign him.

“When he came, I didn’t think we’d be able to afford him. Or someone of a higher pedigree than Arsenal might get him,” Wright said.

“For us to get him, the way he played today, he’s exactly what we need with Thomas Partey alongside him.

“He controls the tempo of the game, gets himself into those clever pockets of space. always makes the right pass, never rushed.”

Wright on Odegaard: Arsenal identity emerging, after NLD win

Mikel Arteta has finally worked out an identity for his Arsenal side. The Gunners side now pretty much is starting to pick itself under the Spaniard.

Aaron Ramsdale is first choice in goal. Tomiyasu, Ben White, Gabriel and Kieran Tierney are the defenders. Having that platform is crucial.

Then, the combination of Granit Xhaka, Odegaard and Partey in midfield is working well. The trio dominated Spurs on Sunday.

The freedom given to Smith-Rowe, the experience of Aubameyang and the raw talent of Saka is again – well-balanced. Arteta has finally got his side.

He got criticism earlier in the season but fairplay to him, Arteta has got things right immediately. Odegaard is crucial to that.
