Ian Wright is one of the true greats of the Premier League era, and an all-time legend for Arsenal.

Wright was Arsenal’s record scorer for a long time before Thierry Henry broke his record.

The Arsenal legend scored over 100 Premier League goals, while he won the title in 1998 with the Gunners.

Ian Wright was a class act for Arsenal, and while he’s best remembered for his time at Highbury, the striker has now discussed another club he would’ve liked to have played for.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Wright and his co-hosts have been discussing some of their biggest regrets from their careers.

While Wright didn’t say it was a huge regret, he did say that he thinks he could’ve ended up at Manchester United if his career went in a different direction, claiming that he would’ve thrived for the Red Devils.

Ian Wright would’ve thrived at Manchester United

Wright spoke about potentially playing for United.

The England international says that he wouldn’t necessarily have preferred being at United to Arsenal, but he would’ve loved to have played in that team and had so many chances created for him.

The pundit loves Arsenal though. Wright has been involved mentoring young players at Arsenal, and Wright is often championing the current team.

“You know what, I think if I was a few years younger, I think I could have got to United,” Wright said.

“But I’m not saying I would have, I’m just saying that if I was a few years younger, I know I could have thrived in that dressing room, but… If I could have…”

“You know what, you watch Man United on a weekly basis as a striker, and you think, geez, I wish I was playing for them. Of course, of course I’m going to take those chances.

“I’m not saying I’d rather play for United. Right now, the way United were playing back then, there’s no striker that wouldn’t have.”

Ian Wright compared to Manchester United strikers

Wright says he would’ve thrived in that Manchester United team, and he’s not wrong.

Indeed, Wright was up there with the best strikers in England at the dawning of the Premier League era, and he could certainly have given the Red Devils’ players a run for their money.

Eric Cantona was an all-time great striker in the Premier League, but Wright’s record is up there with the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, Wright could also hold a candle to the likes of Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole too.

In another world, Wright could’ve been a Manchester United great rather than an Arsenal star.
