Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, admits he is absolutely loving watching new midfielder Martin Odegaard in the Gunners midfield at the moment.

The Real Madrid loanee has started to really leave an impression on proceedings of late. His excellent touch, awareness, and weight of pass in attacking areas has really caught the eye.

Odegaard, who joined in January until the end of the season, has kept Emile Smith-Rowe out of the picture of late. And despite being a big fan of Smith-Rowe too, Wright admits he’s been impressed by Odegaard so far.

“Can I just say, Odegaard right. He’s beautiful on the ball, he’s so efficient,” Wright said on his Wrighty’s House podcast.

“People like Odegaard, he brings people into the game, he gives you touches he’s one of those. I remember when I played with Gazza, Gazza was amazing for that.”

Odegaard has started the last three games for Mikel Arteta. In those games, the Gunners have won twice, scoring seven times, with the only defeat in that trio coming against Manchester City.

It seems very much, then, that Wright would have relished the chance of playing with a player as talented as Odegaard.

Odegaard is doing exactly what Mikel Arteta brought him in to do. He’s calm in possession, has a keen eye for a pass, and is creating in the final third.

It is exactly what the Gunners needed and Odegaard can be pleased with his efforts so far. The goals and assists will come eventually and it will certainly be interesting to see if Arteta pushes the boat out to try and keep him come the summer.
