Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes that he knows one change that Jurgen Klopp should make as Liverpool approach the business end of the season whilst pushing for the title.
“I’d prefer to have Mane in the centre, especially if [Roberto] Firmino’s not playing well, I’d have him in the centre, maybe take Firmino out, have [Xherdan] Shaqiri on,” Wright told BBC Radio 5Live, as quoted by Goal. “He can do everything. He can defend, he can play centre forward, he can play wing, he can play anywhere.”
The Senegal international has been in fine form of late and the pundit feels that Liverpool’s best chance of success comes through putting their faith in him ahead of Firmino as a central striker.
Mane has scored nine goals in his last nine games and featured in a central role against both Watford and Everton, scoring twice in a rout over the Hornets at Anfield.
Of late, he has returned to his more usual position on the left flank, scoring three goals in two games and adding a further assist to the tally since being deployed back on the left.
With Firmino providing a stunning assist for Brazil with a backheel pass, it may not be the time for Klopp to follow Wright’s advice, but Mane’s incredible form will certainly still be key to any title hopes.
