Ian Wright has commented on Tottenham star Harry Kane and his future

Ian Wright has told BBC Sport that he believes Harry Kane will remain at Tottenham Hotspur this summer in order to give current manager Jose Mourinho a chance to thrive as boss with a pre-season.

Kane, 26, has been in top form this season again, scoring 17 goals in 25. However, he has been forced to watch from the sidelines since January after tearing his hamstring and going under the knife.

However, Spurs have struggled and sit in eighth place in the Premier League. Speaking to Jamie Redknapp on Instagram, as quoted by Sky Sports, Kane stated that if he does not feel the north London club are progressing – then he could decide to leave

“I’ve always said if I don’t feel we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, then I’m not someone to just stay there for the sake of it,” Kane said. “It’s not a definite I’m going to stay there forever – but it’s not a no either.”

Arsenal legend Wright was asked about Kane’s comments and the Gunners icon stated that he believes Kane will remain at Tottenham at least for another season – but stated that a player of his calibre needs to be winning trophies.

“Kane did say ‘next year will be the first chance the gaffer will have to bed his values into the team’,” Wright said. “That says to me he is somebody who is already thinking of next year, so he’s not going anywhere.

“I’d give this manager a chance with his pre-season, do next season and see where it goes. Because from when he made his debut up to now, I think he has given them everything he can. “You can’t have that kind of ability, and not win anything.”

TBR’s view – For Kane, it is all about winning trophies

The talk of Kane not being paid as much as some of the other best centre-forwards in the world has gone out of the window, given that he is raking in £200,000 a week (Spotrac). It is whether Kane can reach his ambitions at Spurs.

That would be the ideal world for Kane. But the England skipper realises that he may need to leave in order to reach his ambition – and plenty of clubs, such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester United and more will be keen.
