Ian Wright hails Tottenham striker Harry Kane after England performance

Ian Wright has hailed Tottenham centre-forward Harry Kane and is a fan of the role he plays for England.

The 25-year-old picked up his customary goal on Monday night, as he captained England to a 5-1 win away to Montenegro in a European Championship qualifier.

He’s scored two in two games during the international break and should return to Spurs in good spirits.

Kane is a prolific goalscorer at club level with 24 in 36 games so far this campaign and he’s beginning to replicate that on the international stage.

He’s the focal point in Gareth Southgate’s team, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi playing in wide roles alongside him.

Pundit Wright has praised the Spurs attacker for his goal threat and his overall impact on the England national team.

“You know he’s going to score and that’s what is so great about him. Whether it’s opposition like this or even sterner opposition Harry Kane is going to be dangerous,” Wright said on ITV One’s televised coverage of England v Montenegro (9:45pm, 25 March).

“I like the role he plays for us (England) at the minute. He holds it up really well, he does brilliantly when he’s got runners in behind him.”

TBR’s View:

Kane really is in the elite bracket of strikers in world football right now and England are extremely fortunate to have him.

It makes sense that Southgate has made him the captain of the side and he’s already a senior figure that teammates will look up to.

Spurs are now going to need him during the remainder of the season, as they push for a top four finish and also prepare for the Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester City.

Kane will always score goals around the penalty area, but what’s often underrated about him is his link up play and the creativity he shows when he drops deep.
