Ian Wright has been singing the praises of Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Diogo Jota. The former Arsenal and England striker was speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day (27/04/2019) when he gushed of his excellence in the final third.
“He’s the one who can get into positions and create. Five assists now for Jimenez, that’s why Jimenez loves him so much. Gets himself in the box as well, nine Premier League goals himself this season.
“Especially away from home they (the rest of the team) can leave these two to get on with it.”
Wright is undoubtedly making these comments from the view of a striker. It is clear he would love to be partnered with Jota in attack, who has been in fine form recently.
It is difficult to remember that, at the start of the season, the Portuguese was struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old, in fact, failed to produce a goal or assist in the league until December. Since then he has been in fine form. Nine goals and five assists in his last 18 games in the top-flight is an impressive tally which has so many people talking about his talent.
Partnering the entirely different style of Raul Jimenez has given Wolves a potent attacking threat which has been a key reason behind their march into seventh spot in the Premier League.
Wolves fans will just hope this form continues until the end of the season and into next term.
