Ian Wright explains what he said to Eddie Nketiah before Leeds United move

Ian Wright has been explaining what he actually said to Eddie Nketiah, regarding his summer decision to join Leeds United on loan from Arsenal.

The Arsenal legend is acting as a mentor to the Leeds loanee, who shares many attributes with the former England international.

Nketiah joined Leeds on loan on deadline day from under the noses of Bristol City. As reported by the Bristol Post, Nketiah failed to show for a medical at Ashton Gate ahead of a proposed loan move and was soon on his way to Leeds.

It has been suggested in recent weeks that Wright was behind that decision. However, he was in attendance as Bristol beat Charlton Athletic last night and told the club’s official TV channel that was not the case.

He did, however, suggest he gave Nketiah advice about putting more pressure on himself, which may have swayed him toward Leeds.

“Everyone’s talking about the fact I advised him to go to Leeds but what I said to him was that he’ll score goals at both of those clubs, it depends on the level of pressure you want to put on yourself in respect of having to score those goals.

“In the end he chose Leeds but at the same time, you know what happened with Tammy Abraham and how they create chances here.”

There is no doubt that if Nketiah wanted to put pressure on himself than Leeds was the obvious choice over Bristol City.

The club are expected to be promoted this season. Leeds are also a far bigger club than the Robins with a weight of history pressing down on them.

So far, Nketiah has thrived under that pressure, especially being used in a super-sub role at the club.

Hopefully, he can start getting some starts under his belt soon and continue scoring goals for Leeds United.
