Mesut Ozil made just his third appearance of the season for Arsenal on Wednesday night and was excellent throughout the match despite Liverpool winning on penalties – and Ian Wright has raved over the Gunners playmaker.
Ozil, 31, has been frozen out by Unai Emery this season. Many are of the belief that Arsenal are looking to get rid of Ozil due to his enormous wages, while some have claimed that Ozil has downed tools in training – leaving Emery with little choice.
He has played against Watford in the League and Forest in the Carabao Cup, and started against Liverpool – lasting just over an hour. He provided an assist for Ainsley Maitland-Niles to score, and was the architect of Gabriel Martinelli’s second strike.
Emery took Ozil off in the 65th minute, which has drawn criticism from Arsenal fans. Nevertheless, Gunners legend Wright reacted on Twitter to the former Real Madrid star’s performance, heaping praise on the 92-time Germany international.
Finding space. Total composure in the final third. Clear chances being created. So much of what we need!!!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Fantastic tonight Mes. pic.twitter.com/nqopDO5Cof

TBR’s view – Ozil showed that Arsenal still need him
There is a reason why Ozil is earning more than any other Arsenal player, and that is because he has tha ability, vision and footballing intelligence to create chances out of nothing – something only a handful of players can do on the planet.
Arsenal fans will be hoping Emery would have been impressed by Ozil’s display, and that taking him off just after the hour mark was in order to keep him fresh for Saturday’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Emirates.
The chances are, though, that he will be forced to watch from the sidelines again.
