Ian Wright has told Match of the Day he is excited to see where Leeds United can finish in the Premier League and is hoping they can reach the magical mark of 40 points – and then play with the knowledge they are safe from the drop.
Leeds climbed to 23 points on Tuesday night with a stunning 5-0 win over West Brom at The Hawthorns, inflicting Sam Allardyce’s worst ever home defeat in the Premier League. The Whites have climbed to 11th place.
Goals from Gjanni Alioski, Jack Harrison, Rodrigo, Raphinha and a Romaine Sawyers own goal saw Leeds win 5-0. Bielsa’s side have now reached their points tally after just 16 games, and are well on course to reach 40.
Wright, who has a strong connection with Leeds fans following the loan spell of Eddie Nketiah, has told MOTD that he is hoping Leeds get to 40 points and safety as soon as possible – and then have the ability to play with freedom.
