Ian Wright has insisted that Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard will be a great signing for Arsenal amid reports that he will complete a loan move to the Emirates Stadium.
Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Odegaard will join the Gunners this month on loan until the end of the season.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta also confirmed last night that the North London club are “pretty close” to signing the 22-year-old.
Odegaard is a highly-rated attacker midfielder that appears to be on the brink of moving to the Premier League for the first time in his career.
The Norwegian youngster, who already has 25 senior international caps for his country, was regarded as a future star at such a young age and it feels like he’s been around forever.
He is a left-footed playmaker that loves to play in the number 10 creative role and could add some extra firepower to Arteta’s XI.
Wright has given a big thumbs up on the imminent Odegaard transfer.
“I think it’s a magnificent coup, it’s exactly what we need… What I’ve seen of him, his left foot is excellent, he looks really good,” Wright said on his podcast.
Odegaard has had a stop-start season so far at Madrid due to a couple of minor injury problems and for that reason he’s found it hard to nail down a regular spot in the team.
But the exciting youngster dazzled out on loan at Real Sociedad last season, scoring seven goals and setting up nine assists in 36 games across all competitions.
As long as his arrival on loan at Arsenal doesn’t stunt the progress of Emile Smith Rowe, it looks like it could be an excellent piece of January business from the club.
