Ian Wright has defended Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron from Jack Grealish‘s ‘disrespectful’ remark about him during Manchester City’s open-top bus parade back in May.
Almiron has been fantastic for the Magpies this season. He looks like a completely different player and is now a regular in Eddie Howe’s side in the Premier League.

Ian Wright calls Jack Grealish’s comments on Newcastle star Miguel Almiron ‘disrespectful’
Almiron hasn’t always had the kind of success that he has had this season. His talent and work ethic are unquestionable, but he has previously struggled to be a threat in front of goal.
That’s when Grealish decided to poke fun at Almiron – well, he actually made fun of Riyad Mahrez, but it was the Newcastle man who came off looking worse.
“Riyad, take him off the pitch, as soon as possible. He played like Almiron,” Grealish said, as per The Daily Star, to which both Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne fell about laughing.
Five months on now, Wright is not happy and has branded those comments as ‘one of the most disrespectful things’ he has ever heard in football.
The legendary Englishman said on The Wrighty’s House podcast: “Can we just roll back to Manchester City? There are certain things that are said in the dressing room, it’s not supposed to leave the dressing room.
“I love Jack Grealish but for him to say ‘we should’ve took Mahrez off because he’s playing like Almiron’ is easily one of the most disrespectful things I’ve heard ever.
“That’s not supposed to be public consumption!”

TBR View:
Grealish probably didn’t intend any harm to Almiron when he said what he said, but Wright’s right, the Manchester City man should not have made that remark out in public.
The good thing now, however, is that Almiron is playing incredibly well.
The 28-year-old Paraguayan has scored four times in the Premier League this season at an average of 189 minutes per goal – ironically, a much better record than Mahrez (308) and Grealish himself (319).
We’re guessing the Manchester City record signing will not be joking about Almiron anymore.
