Mikel Arteta has been appointed as manager of Arsenal after weeks of waiting for a permanent replacement for Unai Emery – and both Ian Wright and Mesut Ozil have reacted on social media.
Arteta, who has no previous managerial history, has been appointed after working as Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s assistant. He has been offered a three-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him in north London until the summer of 2023.
Arteta has been chosen ahead of the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Max Allegri and plenty more – even ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino. Former Gunners skipper Patrick Vieira has remained at French side OGC Nice.

It is believed the former Everton and Rangers midfielder will not take charge of Saturday’s outing against one of his former sides in the Toffees at Goodison Park – with Freddie Ljungberg remaining in interim charge of the side.
The Spaniard spent five years as a player at Arsenal before retiring in 2016, captaining the side and clocking up 149 appearances in all competitions for the north Londoners. He won two FA Cup titles during that time.
Gunners playmaker Ozil reacted on Twitter to the news that Arteta had replaced Emery, welcoming back Arteta, while Arsenal legend Wright has applauded the decision to bring in Arteta as the club’s new manager.
