Jack Grealish starred once again for Aston Villa on Wednesday evening in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Leicester City as the two sides played out an exciting 1-1 draw – and John McGinn and Ian Wright have reacted to Grealish’s Instagram post.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were deemed massive favourites going into the clash, given their stunning 2019-20 campaign and home advantage at the King Power. But it wasn’t to be, as Villa tore up the script with an impressive display.
Despite Tom Heaton and Wesley suffering season-ending injuries, Villa took the lead through Frederic Guilbert after an ezcellent cross from Anwar El Ghazi. Ezri Konsa should have made it two before the half-time whistle.
His header from a Grealish free-kick crashed off the bar. In the second half, Villa dominated and finally levelled the tie through substitute Kelechi Iheanacho. The first leg ended as a 1-1 draw, and Grealish posted on Instagram after the match.
Leicester will now have to book their place in the final of the Carabao Cup by beating Aston Villa away from home in the second leg. It gives Villa a strong chance of knocking Leicester out, with Manchester City or Manchester United to face in the final.
Arsenal legend Wright reacted to Grealish’s post by praising the Villa skipper, describing his effort as a “brilliant performance”. McGinn, meanwhile, likened Grealish to that of Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp.
