Arsenal legend Ian Wright is one of many to have now shared their reaction to news that the club have signed Riccardo Calafiori.

Calafiori officially became an Arsenal player on Monday, immediately ready to train with the squad stateside.

It seems unlikely that the Italian will play any minutes against Liverpool in the early hours of Thursday morning, but fans should be treated to a pre-season debut during the Emirates Cup.

First and foremost it seems as if Calafiori will be used as a left-back at Arsenal, effectively replacing Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The 22-year-old encompasses the best of both players, a more well-rounded option who will still need a period of adaptation to show his best.

But it’s obvious why Mikel Arteta has added another Jurrien Timber like profile to his back-line, one that is suddenly blessed with options.

That being said, after sealing his move to Arsenal, one he has dreamed of for a long time, Calafiori recently took to Instagram to announce himself in red and white.

The defender uploaded three photos of him signing his Arsenal contract alongside the likes of Arteta and his agency team.

And to accompany the photos, Calafiori simply left a caption of “Finally”, along with some red and white emojis.

As you may expect, the outpouring of support from all associated with Arsenal was pretty strong in the replies.

And among them were Ian Wright and Edu, who both left comments.

Wright made the effort to reply partly in Italian saying, ‘Welcome amico.”

Edu then simply left a collection of emojis expressing his delight that Arsenal had been able to complete a deal for Calafiori.

Calafiori has already seen Arsenal win 5-0

Of course, Calafiori is unlikely to make his debut against Liverpool as stated on Thursday, meaning his official bow will porbably come at the Emirates Stadium against either Bayer Leverkusen or Lyon.

But those games won’t represent the first time that Calafiori has visited north London.

After signing for Arsenal, the Italian shared that he actually came to visit the club back in January.

Calafiori watched Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 5-0 – a match that perhaps persuaded the Italian that Arteta’s project was best-placed to help fulfil his potential.
