Ian Taylor shares three-word reaction as Aston Villa sign Danny Ings
Aston Villa have completed the signing of Danny Ings for an undisclosed fee.
In a move that came completely out of the blue, the Villans confirmed the striker’s arrival from Southampton on a three-year deal.
The 29-year-old England international scored 14 goals for both club and country last term.
However, Ings’ contract at St Mary’s Stadium was set to expire next summer and he opted against extending.
The Saints have therefore chosen to cash in on the talented striker rather than risk losing him for free next year.
Ings has joined fellow summer recruits Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia and Ashley Young at Villa Park.
“Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played,” Dean Smith told the Villa website.
“He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young academy players who are now in and around the first team.
“I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great club.”
Villa legend Ian Taylor has given his reaction to the Danny Ings news on Twitter:
Ings has registered 46 goals and 10 assists in 100 games for Southampton since his move from Liverpool in 2019.
Last season, he netted 12 Premier League goals, while the season before, he grabbed 22 in the top flight.
