Aston Villa have announced the addition of Leon Bailey for a fee The Athletic say is in the region of £30million. The Jamaica international joins the Midlands club from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal, until 2026. Villa icon Ian Taylor has responded on Twitter, with a two-word verdict.

Bailey, 23, was sensational for a Leverkusen side that struggled last season. Clocking up 40 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side, the Jamaica winger had a hand in 26 goals. Scoring 15 times, he also laid on 11 assists. Bailey was used as a 10, on both flanks and even up front.

Villa announced the addition of Bailey on Twitter, a move which is both a coup for Dean Smith’s side – but also a potential concern. Jack Grealish remains a top target for Manchester City and a move is likely. The additions of Bailey and Emi Buendia suggests as much.

What has Taylor said about new Villa signing Bailey?

Regardless of Grealish’s future at Villa, Bailey is a sensational signing. The attacker has been linked with the Premier League’s biggest clubs over the years. Still only 23, Bailey produced his best form last season and is only getting better. At £30million, he is actually quite the bargain for Villa.

Taylor responded to the news that Bailey has signed for Villa, with a five-year deal agreed. He posted a two-word verdict, “more flair”.

In the latest Villa news, the club are favourites to sign Manchester United star Axel Tuanzebe on loan.
