Ian Harte and Luke Ayling react as Leeds confirm departure
Olly Casey has completed a permanent exit from Leeds United this summer to join newly-promoted Championship side Blackpool. The defender has signed a three-year deal at Bloomfield Road, as he goes in search of game time. Luke Ayling and Ian Harte have reacted to Leeds letting Casey go.
Casey, 20, was a key part of Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side that gained promotion as champions this season. Winning Premier League 2’s tier 2, Casey formed a brilliant partnership with Charlie Cresswell. His excellent form at centre-back played two senior outings for Leeds during 2020-21.
The defender not only played for the senior side on a couple of occasions during 2020-21, but he also made the bench for nine Premier League games. But ultimately, he is behind a whole list of first-team centre-backs and has decided to move to Blackpool. Casey posted on Instagram.
What have Ayling and Harte said about Casey leaving Leeds?
The problem for Casey is that not only did Leeds sign Robin Koch and Diego Llorente last summer, but Pascal Struijk’s rise has been remarkable. That trio, along with Liam Cooper, mean Leeds have four senior centre-backs as options. Kalvin Phillips and Ayling can also be used in the middle.
It has seen Casey decide to leave, given his chances of breaking into the starting line-up was near impossible. A move to Blackpool massively improves his chances. Ayling responded to his above post, while Leeds legend Harte reacted to Casey’s second post in the colours of Blackpool.
