Kai Havertz isn’t living up to his billing at Arsenal.
The £65m man arrived at the Emirates this summer for a huge fee, but, as of yet, he’s not justified that transfer fee at all.
The German has been utterly abysmal in the Premier League so far, but the one silver lining is that he has been a bit brighter in the Champions League.
Speaking on the Handbrake Off Podcast, Adrian Clarke has been discussing the fact that Havertz has been better in Europe than he has domestically.
The pundit has suggested that Havertz should be in the Arsenal team in the Champions League, but he argues that he wouldn’t have the German starting in the Gunners’ best XI in the Premier League now.

Havertz should start in the Champions League but not the Premier League
Clarke spoke about the former Chelsea man and his role at Arsenal.
“He did ok didn’t he? I just want him to light up a game and shine. He hasn’t had above a 7/10 yet for Arsenal. He’s getting there definitely, but I can’t praise him to the hilt because his performance wasn’t worthy of that, but he’s getting there,” Clarke said.
“On the European football question, I think that’s a valid point. I’ve noticed it in general, they’re not as physical are they and that helps Kai Havertz, I would have him in the Champions League team at the minute, but I wouldn’t have him as a starter in Arsenal’s best Premier League XI right now.”
What a waste
Havertz has looked better in the Champions League than he has in the Premier League so far, but the fact that we’re already having this argument about him just goes to show what a wasted signing this was.
£65m for a player that some believe shouldn’t be starting in the league every week. With each passing week, this transfer looks worse and worse.
Yes, he could light up the Champions League this season – he did similar work at Chelsea when he scored that famous goal in the final, but, at the end of the day, the league is any player’s bread and butter, and if you’re not performing domestically, in our view, you’re not proving to be worthwhile.
