West Ham United manager David Moyes has spoken about the possibility of signing James Tarkowski from Burnley and has admitted a deal looks unlikely given the asking-price.
Moyes, speaking ahead of the season opener with Newcastle this weekend, was answering in response to a question about the reported £50m price-tag Burnley have put on the England man’s head.

The Hammers have already seen a couple of bids rejected for the Clarets star. And when pressed on if £50m might be out of reach for his club, Moyes responded with disappointing news for the club’s fans. (Sky Sports)
“I would have to say so, in this market and this window it would. I think we’ve all taken a little bit of a knock from the COVID-19 situation, we certainly have, and because of that it would make it difficult.”
Tarkowski has emerged as a target for West Ham in recent weeks but Burnley, managed by the typically bullish Sean Dyche, are standing firm on their valuation.

The centre-back has excelled in recent seasons at Turf Moor and has earnt call-ups from Gareth Southgate for England.
£50m is too much but Burnley are within their rights to ask – TBR View
West Ham might want some new players but surely they aren’t going to be tempted in parting with £50m for a central defender?
Yes, Tarkowski is good. But is he that good to warrant David Moyes splashing what would no doubt be most of, if not all, his summer budget.
On the other hand, Burnley are well within their rights to ask for the amount they are. Tarkowski has developed brilliantly and given the market we are in and the fees players go for, it makes perfect sense for them to get the most they can.
