Scott McTominay has played against some fantastic footballers during his time.
As a Champions League, Premier League and international regular, the midfielder has played against some of the world’s best over the years.
However, according to the man himself, Eden Hazard is the toughest player he’s ever had to face.
Indeed, speaking on FootballJoe, McTominay says that the Belgian was impossible to defend against in his time at Chelsea, claiming that when he dropped into that number 10 role, he couldn’t stop him.

Hazard is McTominay’s toughest opponent
The Scot spoke about Hazard during his time at Chelsea.
“Who is the best player you’ve ever faced in a midfield battle?
“In terms of midfield players the game has changed so much and it’s so fluid. You have people like Eden Hazard dropping into a 10 role and you have to defend against him. He’s predominantly a winger and an attacker, but sometimes you do come up one vs one against him, so I would say him,” McTominay said.
Impossible to defend
We can’t even imagine how scary it must’ve been to play against Hazard in his pomp.
The 33-year-old has retired now, probably before he should have, but at his best he was genuinely unplayable.
He dribbled unlike any player we’ve seen in the Premier League before or since, he had immense speed while also maintaining incredible close control while also having a ridiculously low centre of gravity.
Hazard’s time at Real Madrid may have slightly tarnished his legacy within the game, but in terms of the Premier League, there really aren’t many players who hit the heights that Hazard did when he was at Chelsea.
McTominay has played against some of the very best players to ever grace this league, and, in his view, Hazard remains the best of the bunch.
