Arsenal’s need to sign a new striker is becoming increasingly obvious.
The Gunners have scored just five goals in their last five league games, and three defeats in that period has seen them slump down to fourth in the table after being top on Christmas Day.
Arsenal want to win the league this time around, and if they continue scoring at this rate, they will be nowhere near come the end of the season.
There’s no doubt about it, Arsenal need a striker, but the question is, who should they go for?
Ivan Toney is the name that is consistently mentioned in this conversation, but speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has suggested another striker as a better option – Dominic Solanke.

Solanke a better option than Toney
Sutton shared his verdict on the two forwards.
“How can you be certain Ivan Toney would come in and hit the ground running, he hasn’t played. Ivan Toney has proven himself as a really accomplished striker, but if Arsneal sign him, that doesn’t guarantee they will win the league,” Sutton said.
“Solanke, Dominic Solanke, at this moment in time, I think he’s a brilliant all-round striker, at this moment in time if I had to pick Solanke or Toney, I would pick Solanke just because he’s in a bit of rhythm, he leads the line, and you don’t know what you will get from Toney, that’s too much of a risk at this moment in time.”
In form
If Arsenal are trying to sign a striker in January purely with the intention of winning the Premier League this season, then Solanke may be their man.
Yes, Toney is more proven over a longer period at this level, but over the next six months, you’d probably back Solanke to outscore the Brentford striker.
Toney hasn’t kicked a ball in a professional capacity in eight months, that takes it’s toll, meanwhile, Solanke is in the form of his life right now.
Arsenal need their new striker to hit the ground running, and Solanke may be more likely to do that than Toney.
