'I would be fuming': Michail Antonio says he'd be so angry after what's happened to £240k-a-week Liverpool player
West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has told the Footballer’s Football Podcast that he’d be so angry after what’s happened to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk lost his unbeaten record in the Premier League at Anfield over the weekend as Liverpool fell to a 2-1 defeat to Leeds United.
Crysencio Summerville’s effort in the 89th minute proved to be the difference between the sides.
It was a big blow for Jurgen Klopp’s men after losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest the week before.
And it was a bitter pill to swallow for Van Dijk too as the £240,000-a-week star hadn’t lost while playing at home for Liverpool in 70 games.
Now, Antonio says he would be fuming if he was Van Dijk and joked that he would wish he left the club in the summer.
Antonio on Van Dijk
Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Antonio discussed Van Dijk’s amazing record at Anfield coming to an end.
He said: “I would be fuming! There was always going to be a time when it was going to happen, but I would be fuming.
“I would be like ‘oh, why didn’t I leave last summer?’”
It was a remarkable record for the Dutchman that stretched just over four and a half years.
The 31-year-old made the switch to Merseyside from Southampton back in January 2017 and hadn’t tasted defeat at Anfield in the league since.
Van Dijk has been outstanding in Liverpool’s backline but the side are going through a difficult period at this moment in time.
Klopp’s men are struggling to find consistent form in the league but have impressed in Europe.
They travel to north London this weekend to face Tottenham and will be hoping to bounce back with a win in the Premier League. The Reds put in an impressive display against Napoli on Tuesday evening and will be aiming to build on a positive result.
