'I will sell': President says his 'spectacular' player can join Spurs for £8.5m, he reportedly wants move

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Besiktas left-back Ridvan Yilmaz in recent weeks.

Turkiye Gazetesi recently claimed that Spurs have made a bid for the Turkey international.

And Yilmaz has apparently urged his club to facilitate a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs are believed to have made a €8m (£6.8m) offer.

Now, Ahmet Nur Cebi has told Toro IT that Tottenham – or any other suitors – can sign him for €10m (£8.5m).

The Besiktas president revealed that he has received an official offer for Yilmaz, though he didn’t name the club.

Cebi also made it clear he wouldn’t settle for less than €10m.

“Yes it’s true, an official offer has arrived for Ridvan,” he said. “But we have no intention of accepting it.

“The offer must reach €10m. If someone pays €10m, I will sell Ridvan to Europe.

“The important thing is to sell Ridvan and then be able to replace him with a new (player).”

Tottenham could do with bolstering their ranks at left-back, particularly if Sergio Reguilon leaves.

The Spaniard has been linked with a return to La Liga this summer.

If he leaves, Antonio Conte would need competition for Ryan Sessegnon.

Yilmaz may not be a marquee signing, but he’d certainly be a decent shout for Tottenham.

The 20-year-old has already made 60 appearances for Besiktas and has won eight caps for Turkey.

For less than £9m, he would be a fairly inexpensive gamble for Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte.

“He has good fundamentals”

In December 2020, scouting website Breaking The Lines provided an in-depth analysis of Yilmaz.

They quoted Besiktas fan Aaron Armstrong as saying: “He’s firstly a very good defender, he’s never out of his depth and always aware.

“He has improved his crossing a lot from last year and he has good fundamentals like vision and reading the play.

“His positioning and overlapping… can suddenly disrupt the opposition defensive structure. That gives us an extra dimension while attacking.”

Breaking the Lines also spoke of how much of an impact Yilmaz made in a 3-2 Superlig win over Basaksehir in November 2020.

“The results were spectacular,” they wrote. “Besiktas recorded a surprise 3-2 victory, with Ridvan’s performance crucial.

“He kept Edin Visca, arguably the best player in Super Lig, quiet for most of the match.

“His display was so imperious that the Bosnian… switched to the left flank by Okan Buruk in order to give him more space.

“When Ridvan was taken off in the 77th minute, Visca moved back to the right.”
