Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Matt Doherty has told Spurs Play that he was left stunned by Harry Kane’s second goal against Crystal Palace last night.

Kane put in an exceptional second-half performance at Selhurst Park as his quickfire brace put Tottenham on their way to a 4-0 win.

The 29-year-old spearheaded a superb 45 minutes as his all-round play created openings for Antonio Conte’s side.

The England captain was in the right place at the right time to meet Ivan Perisic’s cross at the beginning of the second period and give Spurs the lead.

But it was the second goal that came just minutes later that was the standout finish of the evening. Kane played a one-two with Bryan Gil down the right-hand side and as he received the ball back from the youngster, he took one touch before unleashing a shot into the bottom corner.

It was a trademark Kane finish and caught Vincente Guaita off-guard. While Doherty probably watches his teammate finish like this every day in training, he says the goal actually caught him off guard.

Doherty stunned after what Kane did

Speaking to Spurs Play after the game, Doherty admitted that he was surprised by just how quickly Kane took the shot on.

“He scores goals that you just think – the second one he took so fast I wasn’t even expecting it. But when he does take it you expect it to go in,” he said.

“He’s an incredible striker, one of the best there has been. He’s going to be one of the best the Premier League has ever seen, he’s going to break the records. Just a world-class player and a great guy also.”

Conte received the perfect response from his side last night and will be delighted that Kane is suffering no hangover from his World Cup agony.

It will be a huge boost for Heung-Min Son to get back amongst the goals too, while Doherty also provided some end product from wing-back.

Spurs face a difficult run of fixtures in the Premier League as they are set for a huge clash against their bitter rivals Arsenal next time out.

Last night’s win couldn’t have come at a better time for Conte and it should go a long way to giving this Spurs side a much-needed confidence boost.
