'I was watching': Gary Neville spotted what Nuno did straight after Tottenham let in their second against Chelsea

Gary Neville has told his self titled podcast that Nuno took a risk putting Harry Kane on the left of Tottenham Hotspur’s attack against Chelsea.

Risky decisions

Nuno clearly wanted to utilise Heung-Min Son’s pace on the breakaway against the ageing Thiago Silva.

However, that led to Kane having to play in an unfamiliar role.

Rather than being stationed in the centre, Kane had to play off the left flank.

The decision seemed to work at first, as Tottenham started the contest well.

But in the second-half, as Chelsea continued to dominate, Kane started to cut a frustrated figure.

And Neville noticed that Nuno quickly changed his position after the second goal went in.

“Kane to the left, I did think as I was watching it – how will Harry think about that? He’ll go home tonight thinking hang on a minute, was I left-wing today?,” Neville said.

“I can see why they did it, as they wanted Son to try and isolate Thiago Silva and Lo Celso in the right channel and it worked, but they didn’t get the goal.

“I did feel that if this doesn’t work it might not go down that well.

“I think as soon as Chelsea went 2-0 up I was watching and was thinking he’s not going to hang out on that left much longer.

“Nuno did switch him straight away, he did see the danger of having him out on the left.”

Nuno is yet to quite work out the way to get Kane playing at his optimum best.

Kane is yet to score a goal for Tottenham in the Premier League this season.

Part of that must be due to the distractions of the summer, which led to Kane having an abbreviated pre-season.

But the England captain has also struggled for quality service, with Spurs only scoring three goals as a team in their five league games so far.
