Alasdair Gold has told his YouTube channel that he has been “told” that there will not be much money to spend in the January transfer window, despite the arrival of Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.

The arrival of Italian gaffer Conte last month had given fans hope that there could be some spending done in January. Of course, the winter window is incredibly difficult to sign players in – compared to the summer.

But Conte coming in as manager suggested to pundits and fans alike, that his arrival might be a sign Spurs would spend in January. However, that might not be the case next month.

Football London reporter Gold responded to questions regarding the January window. He said that Tottenham might not spend much: “I was told that there is not huge amounts of money to spend this January.”

Gold on January: What do Tottenham need, how much needs to be spent?

Tottenham fans are not foolish. They will not think that Daniel Levy is going to open the floodgates in a mid-season window. But a couple of signings would re-install some optimism, and much-needed cover.

Tottenham lack central midfield options. Conte’s 3-4-3 system means they require hard-working, defensive-minded midfielders. Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks are Conte’s only current options.

Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Gio Lo Celso are too attacking. So, Spurs need a midfielder to sit in front of the back three – and cover for Harry Kane. A striker is also a must. Those two signings would be ideal.
