‘I was not happy’: ‘Incredible’ attacker says he really didn’t like playing for Arsenal

Willian is a cult hero for many clubs, but, sadly, he never quite managed to have that sort of impact at Arsenal.

Sometimes, a player just doesn’t click at a certain club. Andriy Shevchenko never got to grips with life at Chelsea, Angel Di Maria had a rotten time at Manchester United, and Willian famously didn’t have the best of times at Arsenal.

Speaking to the BBC, the Brazilian has now opened up on his time at the Emirates, sharing the story of how he walked away from a huge contract in order to prioritise his happiness, claiming that he, quite simply, wasn’t happy in north London.

Willian didn’t enjoy playing for Arsenal

The ‘incredible’ winger spoke about his time at the Emirates and his premature departure.

“Yeah, everyone knows it was so much money that I gave up because I was not happy. Money is important, everyone knows that, but that’s not the first thing you have to think of in your life,” Willian said.

Back in the groove

You could tell that Willian wasn’t enjoying himself at Arsenal as his form dipped to lows we haven’t seen before or since.

At Chelsea he was fantastic, at Arsenal he was poor, but now, at Fulham, he’s picked up where he left off at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian is back to his best at the age of 35, and the most crucial part is that he’s been playing with a smile on his face ever since arriving at Craven Cottage.

Arsenal may dropped the ball with Willian, because, based on the form he’s shown for the past 12 months, he probably does still have enough to contribute to a top six side, but, sadly, the environment at the Emirates at that time didn’t led itself to Willian playing to the best of his abilities.
