‘I was amazed’…Alan Shearer says Manchester United fans did something that shocked him after Nottingham Forest

Manchester United sneaked their way past Nottingham Forest in the cup in midweek and Alan Shearer has been left surprised by their fans.

Shearer was on co-comms for the game and didn’t hold back in some of his criticisms of the United team during the 90 minutes. The former England striker picked out winger Antony again as well, insisting the Brazilian just doesn’t do enough.

However, after leaving the game, Shearer has revealed that something caught him massively by surprise when it came to the United fans.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast alongside Gary Lineker, Shearer admitted he was stunned to see a whole load of United fans actually agreeing with some of his scathing assessments.

“I never normally get any love from Man United fans, especially on social media, I’m not one for looking at social media after being a pundit or particularly a co-commentator after the game. But because we got stuck in the ground I thought oh I will just sit in the back of the car and have a scroll through and bizarrely it was like yeah, I agree with Shearer about how we played and about Rashford and Antony and Garnacho and Bruno and everything else. I was amazed,” Shearer said.

Shearer is right about Manchester United players

While they might have scraped through with a late winner, this Manchester United team is not a great side at all.

They are inconsistent, often don’t play as a team and rely on individual moments to dig them out of holes on a number of occasions.

Jamie Carragher picked up on how poor they’ve been recently and was slammed by Erik Ten Hag for doing so. But Shearer has added fuel to that fire and there’s only so much denial Ten Hag can come out with.

Shearer, then, was right to call out the United players here and he won’t be the last pundit to do so either.
