‘I want to fight him’: Callum Wilson says he absolutely hates playing against £27m Arsenal player

Arsenal seem to have rediscovered their toughness as of late.

For years, the Gunners were seen as this soft-touch side who would roll over against the likes of Stoke City or Burnley, but, as they showed against Luton on Tuesday, they have a bit more about them now.

Arsenal are no longer soft, in fact, they have some of the nastiest and toughest players in the Premier League in their ranks right now.

Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been discussing which player in the Premier League he most hates to play against, and he says that Gabriel Magalhaes always proves to be a difficult opponent due to the rough-and-tumble nature of their relationship on the pitch.

Wilson doesn’t like facing Gabriel

The striker shared his verdict on the Brazilian.

“I think for me, mine is Gabriel from Arsenal. He’s a good player, and off the field he’s probably a nice guy and we’d get along, but on the pitch it’s just like war. He wants to fight me, I want to fight him, we had a game against Arsenal recently and he was kicking me, I was clotheslining him, nudging him, elbowing him, standing on his foot, grabbing him for no reason. It started from the last game before this season, we had a bit on the pitch, and in the tunnel during the game this season, he was laughing with the Brazilians, and I was angry looking at him, and he looked at me and thinks ‘oh no, not you again.’ We got on the pitch and we started,” Wilson said.

Nightmare

We certainly don’t envy any striker that has to play against Gabriel.

The £27m defender is an absolute nightmare to face off against. Not only is he an incredibly talented defender, he’s not scared to leave a foot, and elbow or even a head in at times.

You may win the odd battle against Gabriel, but make no mistake about it, you’ll lose the war as you’ll come away from the game battered, bruised and dreading the next time you have to play against Arsenal.

Gabriel is the steely defender that Arsenal needed for so long under Arsene Wenger.
